Making Sense of Nature through Literature

My research investigates how broadening our definitions of nature through literature helps us envision new, less destructive modes of environmental engagement.

My interest in environmental literature began while an undergraduate at Radford University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in English, and continued through my master’s work at University of North Carolina-Wilmington. My interest in furthering this research led me to my current doctoral program at Texas A&M University.

Current Project:

Reading Between The Worms: The Literature of the Environmental Grotesque advocates for a twin reading practice, one where grotesque literary depictions of the environment are read alongside scientific renderings of the same subject matter. When reading in this way, a lens emerges to ultimately help us make sense of nature in new ways.
